Five Favorite Places for Brunch
As you may know, if you’ve read me before, breakfast/brunch is my favorite meal. I know this is true for many people as well. I have visited a good amount of restaurants and cafes. Each place has its uniqueness. However, these five stand out. I wouldn’t want to say that these are the best places to have breakfast/brunch, instead I will say that they are my favorite, so far. They are in no particular order because each one is unique in it’s own way, each has a particular menu and specialties. I must also add that the coffee is spectacular in all of them. I guarantee a great gastronomic experience in each of them. Among all the menu options I’m sure you’ll find something to your liking. Try them out!
RESTAURANTE TABLAS STEAKHOUSE AND SEAFOOD – Located in the center of the town of Ponce, this is a place for hungry people. The portions are huge and everything is delicious. It’s a bit pricey, but the big servings are perfect for sharing. Their hot cereal (CREMAS) are simply delicious.
LATITUD CAFE – Right on Road #2 in Vega Baja, this place will leave you longing for more once you see the varied and eclectic menu. My pick: the eggs benedict with a twist, with pulled pork and a special sauce like nothing you’ve ever had for breakfast. Nice ambiance! Great coffee too! Be prepared to wait for your turn to be seated, but once you order, the meal is prepared promptly.
TAZAS CAFE BISTRO – Located in San Sebastián, going towards Moca. You can enjoy outdoor seating if you prefer, listen to live music on easy Sunday mornings while you savor a mimosa or your favorite coffee. The food is really good. I recommend the creme bruleé french toast and the cheesecake-filled french toast. But they also offer chocolate choices as well as traditional breakfast.
O POSITIVO CAFE– This restaurant is also located in San Sebastian. It’s very popular so be prepared to wait a while if you go on Sunday morning. It’s well worth the wait. They have excellent breakfast options and the portions are hearty. They offer a wide selection of pastries and coffees, it might take a while to choose. Indoor seating and nice atmosphere.
AROMAS DE CAFE – In Ciales, PR, on Road #149 next to Paseo Lineal Juan Antonio Corretjer is an outdoor kiosk with rustic seating overlooking the central mountain area. On Sundays the wait is long mostly due to the small kitchen from which they operate. You can have very good breakfast here, but what puts it over the top for me are the pumpkin pancakes. It’s my go to every time. They open on weekends. On a sunny breezy Sunday morning it’s recharging for the soul and so relaxing to sip your coffee taking in the scenery: rolling green mountains and the river, from such a high elevation.
